Bubble wrap is one of the most common materials used during a move. That said, not everyone understands the optimal way to use it. Why do some wraps have bigger bubbles than other wraps? Are some wrapping techniques better for protecting items than others?

In this article, we’ll cover everything you need to know about using bubble wrap during a move. We hope this helps you make your move a success.

What Kind of Bubble Wrap Should You Use?

There are two kinds of bubble wrap, which are distinguished by the size of their bubbles. If your wrap has smaller bubbles, it’s designed to protect things from getting scratched. This makes it ideal for phones, glass surfaces, and so on.

Bubble wrap with larger bubbles is designed to prevent things from breaking. Essentially, the big pockets of air are designed to cushion the blow of an impact. This makes it a more general purpose wrap, which you can use to prevent larger items from breaking.

How To Use Bubble Wrap

First, it’s useful to know how much bubble wrap you want. You’re going to want to wrap the object twice at minimum. For more prized possessions, you’ll want to use more wrap than that.

From there, you’ll want to lay the object on a surface. Then you’ll want to set the bubbles on the object. From there, you’ll be able to wrap the bubble wrap the desired number of times.

This is the biggest misconception that people have about bubble wrap. They think the bubbles should be on the outside, but the flat surface is actually better able to absorb bumps and other shocks. When the bubbles touch the object, they’re less likely to pop. This means they provide better protection to the object they’re wrapped around.

Tape should be used when necessary. Depending on the object being wrapped, you may then need to use a second sheet of wrap to cover any exposed areas.
