Alta Ski Area
Alta is only for skiers. It has more snow than any other resort in the Salt Lake area. It’s the go-to choice of no-nonsense advanced skiers; it also promotes itself as a “ski area, not a ski resort.”
Even though the focus is on winter sport and not on fancy dining, it still offers home-style charm in abundance. From its grass-fed beef hamburgers to a welcoming local drink at a Peruvian bar, you will find plenty of options to satiate your gastronomic palette.
Alta also has a ski school for beginners. It has 25% of terrain for beginners, 35% for experts, and 40% for intermediate skiing. Book a stay at the Alta Lodge for a ski-in-ski-out experience.
Brighton
Brighton is the local favorite ski resort popular for its low prices, kids-ski-free policy for two children younger than ten years, and a famous ski school. Many Salt Lake City residents learn to ski at Brighton, and a few continue to ski or snowboard through high school and college. It has the perfect mix of elementary, intermediate, and advanced terrains that start and end in the same area.
Deer Valley
If you want to spend your weekend at a luxury resort, Deer Valley is for you. It offers luxury lodging, incredible dining options, and outstanding customer service. It has been consistently rated as one of the top ski resorts by SKI Magazine. Though expensive, it offers a fantastic skiing experience. However, since it’s a ski resort, it allows no snowboarding. It ensures a premium experience with better tracks. You can choose from three lodging properties: St. Regis, Deer Valley; Montage, Deer Valley; and Waldorf-Astoria in Park City.
Park City Mountain Resort (PCMR)
It is the largest ski resort in the United States, with 250 kilometers of ski terrain and 39 lifts. It’s at a lower elevation and receives less snow, and has a shorter season than other nearby ski areas. It’s usually crowded at the peak season because of easy access, but riders can find less crowded places because of its immense size.
Snowbird
It is a paradise for both skiers and snowboarders as it offers acres of challenging terrain. Just like Alta, snowbird also receives a lot of snow. It has an efficient lift system and a long season that sometimes extends from October to May or June. Though it’s not suited for beginners, it offers challenging terrain for intermediate and expert skiers.
